Practising what we teach
Between workshops, Visible Ink offers word services for a few good clients who want their writing to work for real people in the real world. If we can’t provide the service you need, we probably know someone who can. Some of my favourite people edit technical documents, build websites, design curriculum materials, and create visual identities.
If you need a passionate keynote speech about the power of saying what you mean in words that mean what you think they do—or just an entertaining bit about the importance of punctuation—Virginia is happy to deliver Visible Ink’s word services in person.
Words that get the job done [in everyday language]
Visible Ink’s writer in residence translates what engineers and accountants know into words that other people can understand. Word services for topics that all sorts of human beings need to understand. In some circles, this is also known as plain language.
Edits that make your writing better [not just different]
Visible Ink’s editor in chief sees the perfectly reasonable idea that was buried under all those words. And won’t drive you crazy with fixing things that only unicorns would notice. Word services that really tidy up the place.
Thinking until it all makes sense [and the pain goes away]
Visible Ink provides a thinker for when you’re struggling to create content. You talk. We ask questions. You talk some more. We listen. At some point you find words for what you’re thinking and where you’re going. Then we write. It’s less obvious — and way more fun — than it sounds.
Visible Ink projects range from:
- Editing safety procedures for driving on ice roads to editing government auditors
- Editing RFPs for plain language to drafting responses to RFPs [that were not written in plain language]
- Writing brochures on taking care of pets to editing books on parenting
- Editing books for young hockey fans to student materials for online learning
- Doing media interviews to delivering keynote speeches
